Collingua is a language and culture study website that aims to help people learn English through personal interviews with native speakers. People around the world often find it difficult to gain access to native English speakers; to hear what sort of language they use and what they sound like. By closing the gap between the classroom and real life Collingua provides the solution.
This platform allows people to have more of a connection to the English language by offering an insight into the lives of real people from different backgrounds. Collingua members can learn and develop by answering comprehension questions on the language they listen to in the interviews.
Mission Statement
Providing a connection between English learners and native English speakers through candid and personal interviews. Collingua closes the gap between the classroom and real life.
Vision Statement
To build confidence in English learners by introducing them to real world native English speakers. We also aim to interview people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds across the English speaking world.
Our Founder
Jason Rawding is a former English teacher and graduate of Information System Design. In his mid-twenties he moved to Colombia after growing tired of working as an IT support technician in the financial industry.
Whilst teaching English and studying Spanish in Bogotá he quickly understood the importance of listening to native speakers as the language he was learning in classrooms and online would ‘click’ once he heard it being used in conversation. He also identified the obstacle many English learners faced when trying to find native English speakers to practice with.
On launching Collingua Jason said “I hope to build a connection between English learners around the world and native English speakers by revealing the stories and thoughts of ordinary people”.
